Sat April 13, 3:00pm – moved indoors to St Paul Lutheran Church, 440 Hoboken Ave
Sat April 27, 2:00pm – Ercel Webb Park (Lafayette Park)
Sat April 27, 6:00pm – Van Vorst Park
Sat May 4, 3:00pm – Hamilton Park

Our program will begin with J.S. Bach’s Double Violin Concerto in D minor, written in 1730. Expressivity and emotiveness are at the forefront of Bach’s highly contrapuntal writing here, and the two violin soloists communicate with each other in intricate dialogue over the course of 3 movements.

Following this we move to approximately 1801 with Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 1, Op. 18, movements 1 and 2. The brilliant, lively 1st movement is tempered by the somber, tragic 2nd movement, rumored to have been inspired by the tomb scene from Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet”.

Our afternoon will be rounded out by a medley of South American tangos by various composers, all written in Argentina in the mid to late 90s. Representative of the “nuevo tango” period, which saw the genre be heavily influenced by jazz and classical music, these pieces promise to be a rousing, joyous finale to the performance.
