New Thread Quartet premiere of “Sunstruck”

The next major concert of our season features our artistic director Zach Herchen’s New Thread Quartet! NTQ is a saxophone quartet that specializes in contemporary chamber music, recently had their Carnegie premiere, and has received multiple grants for recent projects. New Thread is excited to bring their biggest project yet to Con Vivo’s stage: a new 30 min piece commissioned by Ben Hjertmann.

Sunstruck is an epic work focus on the idea of intuition. The piece was composed freely at the piano in its entirety before the editing process began, in order to preserve the initial intuitive structure. The result is a contemplative microtonal work.
